Raspberry opens sweet and slightly tart, all fruit and no candy. Saffron cuts in next and does the difficult work: leathery, faintly medicinal, it strips the sugar out of the top and hands the fragrance over to the base with its dignity intact. That base is oud: dark, resinous, unmistakably Arabian, and given plenty of room to spread out.
