A shop for oud, amber and rose
Raghad's Perfume is a fragrance shop in Detroit, Michigan. Thirteen Arabian and Khaleeji houses, plus the line we blend ourselves, fourteen in all.
Most of what is on these shelves is Arabian and Khaleeji perfume, and it is built differently from what sits on a department store counter. Oud, amber, musk, rose, worn at a concentration meant to stay close to the skin rather than announce itself across a room.
Those traditions are old and they are specific. Oud is the resinous heartwood at the center of Gulf perfumery, deep and a little smoky, layered rather than sprayed on and forgotten. Bakhoor is burned instead of worn, so a room smells of it before anyone arrives. What we carry sits along that range, from the heavy and resinous to the lighter rose and musk blends made for an ordinary Tuesday.
None of that survives a screen, which is the honest problem with selling perfume online. So the invitation is simple: come in and try things. Tell us what you already wear, or what you are trying to replace, and we will start taking bottles down. Blotter first, then your wrist, then a few minutes of waiting while it settles, it will smell different on you than it does on paper, and different again an hour later. You are welcome to leave with nothing.
The ten houses
Gissah, ASSAF, Reef Perfumes, Dkhoon Emirates, Laverne, Alezz Oud and Heaven Scents — Arabian and Khaleeji houses, most of them from the Gulf.
Every bottle is sealed and sold exactly as the house made it, at the concentration the house intended. The shop pages are organized by house, so if you already know the one you want, start there.
The line we blend ourselves
One of the nine is ours. Raghad Perfume is the 100 mL line we blend and bottle under our own name rather than buy in.
It is the one we would most like you to smell in person. There is no house name on the bottle to tell you what to expect, so the only real answer is to put some on and wait.
